Main purpose of position
As our Middle Office and Risk Analyst, you will support procuring and quality assuring Long Term Price Forecasts, as well as pulling and analysing spot and intraday prices where relevant, liaising with Business Development and Asset Management teams to assess and report on operating and pre-operational assets. The role is the main analytical support for the Energy Portfolio Management team, supporting with analysis and strategy for optimizing asset hedging and trading activity. You will have a central role in our decision process for new projects in Brazil market, with full support from experienced business development team. The role is intended to co-develop/code portfolio risk models, as well as ensuring data capture for related inputs and owning the regular governance reporting related to our activities.
Main responsibilities
- Monitor and report on Portfolio positions and risk exposures
- Together with the team ensure that market risk exposures are fully understood, managed, and communicated internally.
- Support analysis on hourly price risk for projects in operation and under development
- Being able to code in Python, to automate power generation, price and risk analysis and issue reports.
- Ensuring risk and return considerations are properly considered for non-contracted energy sales, as well as be an interface towards Project Finance for consistent modelling of individual project returns and risks.
- Assist in structuring of long term PPAs and other energy sales strategies ensuring that portfolio effects and offtake/balancing risks are understood.
- Keep track of regulatory changes with operating assets and of strategic interest.
- Create and present material for project investment decisions related to the above.
- Help prepare the organization for trading activities, related to mandates, risk policies and reporting.
Qualifications and competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, mathematics or related topics.
- Experience: 3-5 years from price forecasting, Middle Office or market risk type analysis
- Language: fluent both written and spoken in English
- Understanding of mathematical and statistical model concepts – Advanced
- Long term power price forecasts – Advanced
- Coding: Python – Intermediate
- Price drivers in electricity markets – Expert
- Understand energy markets, policies, and regulations – Advanced
- Analyse risks and identify mitigants – Advanced.
- Merchant market/sales possibilities and delivery profile implications – Advanced
- Previous exposure to credit risk model and assessment – is beneficial
- Familiarity with Brasil official power price forecast models – newave, decomp, dessem – is beneficial
- Ability to and experience from understanding main price and risk drivers in the Brazilian market, and how they typically affect 1) price level, 2) intraday price shape and development, and 3) price volatility, and to communicate main messages in a structured and informative way.
- Understanding of Brazilian regulatory framework and its impacts on prices and business opportunities
- Using point 1 and 2 above towards assessing related revenue risk and impact on long term PPA pricing.
- This position is instrumental in developing models, reports, and ad-hoc analyses for the company so the candidate must have affinity with numbers.
