Main purpose of position:

Currently we are looking for a Control and Monitoring (CMC) Officer in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our CMC Officer you will be responsible for the Monitoring of the global portfolio of PV Power Plants and Battery power plants at the Control and Monitoring Centre in Cape Town. The CMC Officer will assist with using a Computerized Maintenance Monitoring System (CMMS) to manage works order dispatching to reduce plant downtime as far as possible.  They will also assist with general performance reporting which include but is not limited to monthly, weekly and daily performance reporting. 

 

Main responsibilities

Monitor the global portfolio on a shift work basis to ensure a 24 hour coverage of the plants

  • Create and manage work orders for any plant anomalies that gets detected
  • Communicate with the site personnel across our global portfolio directly to inform and guide local teams to get the anomalies fixed
  • Monitoring of PV and Battery storage plants across the global portfolio
  • Ensure timely response to operational events and alarms
  • First-line investigation of operational issues
  • Assist with monthly, weekly and daily operational performance reporting
  • Create flash reports of major events
  • Ensure Plant Supervisors are informed in detail of occurrences on their plant
  • Assist with the monitoring and coordination of responses to significant events on the Plant(s)
  • Assist with and coordinate emergency situations that poses a risk to the personnel and the Plant(s)
  • Advise where needed on technical related issues with regards to CMC and Plant operations
  • Assist with development, implementation and help maintain CMC processes and procedures
  • Assist with development and implementation of CMMS system and subsequent outcomes

Data acquisition, analysis and reporting

  • Monitor and keep record of all work on plant and plant performance through using the CMMS
  • Report on plant performance and plant activities
  • Assist with general record keeping and reporting
  • Ensure SCADA is operational
  • Extract and compile data as required by departments

Qualifications and competencies

  • B.Tech Electrical Engineering
  • 1 year minimum experience
  • Highly computer literate
  • Control Centre implementation and processes knowledge
  • Knowledge of Power Electrical (LV & HV) systems and support services
  • Understanding of LV & HV systems, preferably AC and DC systems
  • Experience with reading and understanding technical diagrams and drawings
  • Work experience in the Renewable Energy environment will be advantageous
  • Exposure to SCADA systems
  • Understanding of the operational working of plant electrical equipment like Transformers, Switchgear, Inverters, SCADA and network communication
  • Control and/or Monitoring Centre experience will be advantageous
  • Maintenance planning experience will be advantageous
  • Language:fluent in both written and spoken English other languages will be advantageous
