Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for an HVAC Electrician (Solar & BESS ) in Kenhardt, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our HVAC Electrician (Solar & BESS ) you will perform electrical and HVAC work on the Plant, that will include modification, repair, and maintenance of applicable equipment and systems as well as switching, isolation, earthing, and LOTO duties as per Authorisation level. In addition, provide training and supervision to junior personnel and be the Appointed Person on Duty (APD) when the O&M Manager is off-site.
Main responsibilities
Perform Electrical Duties on Plant
- Perform work in the modification, technical troubleshooting, repair test, and maintenance of all facility electrical equipment and systems
- Complete routine safety documentation before every job including tailgate meetings, electrical work permits, etc.
- Perform switching, isolation, safety test, earthing, and LOTO duties as per the Authorisation level of the organizational ORHVS and PSR
- Perform OEM-specific Preventative and Corrective Maintenance tasks on BESS, trackers, and all other PV electrical equipment to adhere to warranty requirements and industry best practices
- Interpret schematics and blueprints
- Quality assurance checklists and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed
- Daily digital reporting and document on CMMS the maintenance activities of all facility electrical equipment, systems, and spare parts
- Control and perform monthly electrical equipment/instruments and tools inspections
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures and processes
- Identify and provide feedback to issues and ongoing development of projects
- Perform functions of Authorised Person and Responsible Person as per Plant requirements
HVAC Duties
- Implement equipment service specifications informed by contractual requirements and maintenance schedule
- Install & and commission HVAC equipment as per OEM specification
- Perform work in the modification, technical troubleshooting, repair test, and maintenance of all HVAC equipment and systems
- Quality assurance checklists and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed
- Daily digital reporting and document on CMMS the maintenance activities of all HVAC equipment, systems, and spare parts
- Monitor, support, and assist the activities of the BESS Maintenance Contractor
- Perform all maintenance activities on BESS in line with BESS contract training requirements Assist in developing standard operating procedures and processes for BESS
- Interpret electronic schematics and blueprints
Perform general and ad hoc duties
- Assist with reporting requirements and support any site audit as requested
- Perform various HSSE-related inspections and documenting
- Report to O&M Management and perform Appointed Person on Duty (APD) functions when O&M Manager is not on site
- Perform general tasks as required on-site
Qualifications and competencies
- N3 Qualification
- Qualified Electrician and Permit-to-work system and/ or ORHVS knowledge
- Registered Installation Electrician; Not single-phase tester
- Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration and Ventilation Systems Certificate from accredited training provider (e.g ETQA/QCTO/MERSETA/ SAIRAC or SARACCA)
- Min 1+ year experience in HVAC Trade
- Knowledge of Solar PV Plant & BESS
- Computer literate –MS Word, MS Excel & MS Outlook
- 3+ years Electrical experience
- 2+ years of Proven experience in HVAC systems troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance
- Proven experience in LV and MV equipment troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance
- Proven experience in Electronics and Control Systems
- Supervision and training - Supervise, train junior personnel in associated duties and evaluate electrical staff
- Support client training pre-COD and BESS training requirement post-COD
- Maintain Transformers and Switchgear and Assist with reporting and perform various HSE related inspections
- Experience with HV Switching, Solar PV Plant & BESS
- Electrical knowledge (LV - AC&DC) and (MV&HV)
- Knowledge of ORHVS, SCADA and CMMS
- Additional Trade-Test in HVAC (Air conditioning & Refrigeration) or;
- HVAC System
- Technical Support and Reports
- Operating System and Process Control
- Non-conformances and claims management
- Language: fluent both written and spoken in English
