Main Purpose of the Position

We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager - Early Operations and Asset Support based in Cape Town, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future.

As our Engineering Manager you will conduct investigations and implement solutions to resolve all technical matters related to operations and performance of operational plants.

You will manage and constantly develop the Engineering Department.

Our ideal candidate has experience in the design, structuring and execution of utility scale PV projects. You are a curious person always looking for new opportunities and solutions to improve our next exciting project through analysis, simulations and integrating the latest technologies to maximize performance and reliability.

 

Main Responsibilities 

Operating System:

  • Provide continuous input towards improvement and optimization of the operating system
  • Generating of relevant technical procedures to facilitate support function

Support to Structuring Phase of projects:

  • Establish and approve technical requirements to be considered in the Project Documents (Functional Requirements, O&M Contracts)
  • Ensure technical considerations in Detailed Engineering are aligned with learnings from operational
  • Close co-operation with O&M Business development to ensure correct input into Financial Model, future operations and contractual obligations

Support to Project Execution:

  • Review of relevant technical documentation to ensure full TTO deliverables and technical compliance
  • Coordinate the early operation phase through the structuring phase, the delivery phase up to end of DNP

Support to Power Production

  • Investigate plant optimization opportunities and work on improvement initiatives and repowering projects
  • Conduct fault finding studies and investigations into operational issues
  • Generate Root Cause analysis reports and implementation recommendations
  • Develop and maintain a database of technical learnings, finding and solutions to be implemented or considered in future projects
  • Support Asset Management with LTA, lenders, board requirements and other queries
  • Draft and/or provide input to reports for various stakeholders (SPV, Operations, Field services )
  • Support Field services with all related queries, concerns, HSE and emergency situations
  • Ensure plant technical compliance with internal standards, utility compliance, equipment and supplier requirements
  • Assistance with any technical matters as arising from interaction with the Support Project Management services

Qualifications and skills

  • Degree in Engineering Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electro-Mechanical)
  • Master’s degree in engineering (ideally)
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Specialization in solar and/or renewable energy is desirable
  • 10+ years’ Electrical/Electro-Mechanical engineering experience, Including Renewable Energy, Project environment, distribution and reticulation design experience
  • Exposure to High Voltage Networks and Sub-stations
  • Experience in Utility Scale PV Project design and Execution Experience in SCADA systems or communication networks
