Main purpose of the position

Currently we are looking for a O&M Field Engineer (Solar & BESS) in Upington and Kenhardt, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our O&M Field Engineer you will be responsible for On site personnel responsible to perform specialised electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical work and investigations on the Plants with special focus on inverters and BESS. To perform modification, repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment and systems as well as switching, isolation, earthing and LOTO duties as per Authorisation level when required. To provide training and supervision to personnel.


Main Responsibilities

Perform specialised technical duties on Plants

  • Ensure optimal performance of electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical equipment and systems of all PV equipment and BESS
  • Inverter and BESS specialist for all the Plant
  • Perform work in the modification, repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical equipment and system
  • Perform investigations into the modification, repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical equipment and system
  • Assist and support with all Engineering investigations including third party investigation
  • Assist with project management as required with respect to improvement of Plant equipmen
  • Lead plant level investigations into events/incidents and equipment with abnormal conditions

Assist electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical work on the Plants

  • Asist with the performance of work in the modification, repair and maintenance of electrical, electronic, network communication and mechanical equipment and systems
  • Perform switching, isolation, earthing and LOTO duties as per Authorisation level when required
  • Asist and support with the performance Preventative and Corrective Maintenance tasks
  • Ensure inverter and BESS availability and perform technical troubleshooting
  • Provide LV and HV switching as per Authorisation level when required
  • Perform functions of Authorised Person and Responsible Person as per Plant requirements

Perform General and adhoc duties

  • Compile engineering and specialised technical reports
  • Report on Plant performance
  • Perform various HSSE related inspections
  • Training requirements as required by BESS contract
  • Report to line manager and perform Appointed Person on Duty (APD) functions when required
  • Support O&M and Technical Managers as required
  • Perform general work as required on site

Qualifications And Competencies

  • National Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering (N6) or NQF equivalent
  • Ideal: BTECH: Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety legislation and best practices
  • Highly computer literate
  • 3 years’ appropriate experience in a relevant environment
  • Electrical knowledge (LV) and (HV)
  • Reporting
  • Site Management
  • Technical Support and Reports
  • Operating System and Process Control
  • Non-conformances and claims management
  • Contract Management
