Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for a Tax Manager in São Paulo, Brazil to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our Tax Lead you will Assist in all aspects of direct and indirect tax in the for the local entities in country.
Main responsibilities
- Tax structuring in Brazil (direct and indirect taxes), with a focus on both managing risk and optimizing returns for projects in development and operational stages.
- Strong knowledge of indirect taxes (ICMS, PIS/COFINS, ISS) is desirable, along with familiarity with VAT concepts and the Indirect Tax Reform (IBS / CBS).
- Work closely with the Group Tax function at Scatec, mainly on matters related to cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and international tax structuring.
- Advise on optimal funding instruments for project and operating companies to minimize trapped cash, FX exposure, and tax risks.
- Collaborate closely with the Business Development department on project development, including reviewing tax assumptions in financial models / budgets.
- Review and assist in drafting contracts to align with structuring decisions and minimize tax exposure.
- Support transfer pricing activities by working with the Transfer Pricing team, ensuring that transfer pricing is properly considered during structuring and that Brazil complies with transfer pricing regulations.
- Monitor and ensure overall tax compliance in Brazil.
- Manage tax audits and tax controversy matters in Brazil, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Develop and implement routines, policies, and internal controls (including within operational systems) related to the tax function.
- Monitor changes in Brazilian tax legislation and assess measures to optimize ongoing operations accordingly.
- Provide technical support, advice, and assistance on routine tax activities, whether performed internally or by outsourcing partners.
- Assist and participate in activities within the Finance and Control organization on non-tax matters when workload allows.
Qualifications and competencies
- Graduate degree in Law, Accounting, or Business, preferably with a Master’s degree in Tax.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in tax matters and structuring, preferably from a Big 4 firm, a large law firm, or an in-house tax position.
- Advanced written and spoken English.
- Strong skills in managing contracts with service providers and advisors; solid knowledge of indirect taxes (ICMS, PIS/COFINS, ISS) and familiarity with VAT concepts and the Indirect Tax Reform (IBS / CBS); experienced in tax planning, business strategy, and transfer pricing.
