Main purpose of position 
Currently we are looking for an Environmental & Social Manager in Bucharest, Romania to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. As our E&S Manager, you will be driving the projects’ E&S workstream in cross disciplinary teams for making sure potential E&S impacts and risks are being accounted for. The role involves identifying, mitigating, and managing a broad range of environmental and social risks and ensuring compliance to local law and regulations, and international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements, WBG EHS Guidelines and the Equator Principles. You will interact proactively and engage with all types of stakeholders, spanning from local communities and respective authorities to international consultants, lenders and the Company’s business partners and internal business unit teams. The position will be based in Scatec’s office in Bucharest with regular travels to project sites, and be part of the Corporate Sustainability team which is mainly based in Oslo, Norway. 

The position will predominantly focus on our Solar PV projects under development in Craiova. 

Main responsibilities  

  • Ensure project compliance with the Company’s Sustainability Policy, Code of Conduct, EBRD Performance Requirements, Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards and lead dialogue with project lenders with respect to E&S discipline matters 
  • Coordinate Environmental and Social Due Diligence Assessments, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and executing on Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) 
  • Develop Environmental and Social management systems (ESMS) for projects, in collaboration with relevant project teams and contractors including specific Environmental and Social Management Plans (Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Land Acquisition and Compensation Framework, Waste Management Plan, Labor Management Plan, Biodiversity Management Plan, Occupational Health and Safety Plan, Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan etc.) 
  • Ensure implementation of ESMS and fulfilment of environmental and social commitments and activities required for project compliance by regular training, supervision and monitoring of project teams 
  • Perform regular site visits and plan, coordinate and participate in meetings with local stakeholders and partners as required 
  • Prepare presentation material and occasionally represent in internal and external forums 

Qualifications and competencies 

  • Education: University degree within social sciences, environmental/climate science, engineering 
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience with environmental and social risk management of infrastructure or energy projects, preferably with site implementation experience from renewable projects and/or consultancy services, in accordance with IFC Performance Standards. 
  • Experience in project management, including leading teams and working with stakeholders at all levels 
  • Strong knowledge and practical implementation experience of international environmental and social standards including the EBRD Performance Requirements, Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards 
  • Experience in handling social conflicts and land acquisition processes is an asset 
  • Solid understanding and working experience with EU regulations/environmental directives is an asset 
  • Experience in human rights due diligence assessments and labor and working conditions audits is an asset 
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in Romanian and English
