Main purpose of position

Currently we are looking for a General Service Team in Selebi-Phikwe, Botswana, South Africa to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future. The General Service Team member position, is within the Operations and Maintenance function, reporting directly to the General Service Team Leader. During the O&M phase, the focus is on performing various repetitive maintenance tasks on plant level

 

Main responsibilities  

  • Assist Technical Specialist team on-site in performing electrical preventative maintenance activities (e.g., cleaning of inverters and transformers, brushing and painting etc.)
  • Assist Technical Specialist team on-site in performing electrical corrective maintenance activities (e.g., Installing of cables etc.)
  • Performing tasked associated with mechanical works including torquing of PV modules structure
  • Performing tasked associated with vegetation management with electrical/mechanical and gardening tools to ensure safe clearance under and around electrical equipment
  • Performing tasked associated with PV modules washing
  • Performing tasked associated with maintenance and repair work to storm water and drainage system
  • Performing tasked associated with road maintenance and erosion control measures
  • Excavate defined areas using handheld tools, laying of materials and reinforcement products (concrete blocks, etc.)
  • Assisting Store person to move equipment and spares in warehouse
  • General housekeeping and cleaning as required inside/outside O&M building and warehouse
  • Gardening around O&M building when required
  • Perform daily maintenance activities as per work order to meet production target
  • Follow O&M procedures and comply with quality standards
  • Use appropriate equipment, tools and materials at all times
  • Handle and transport materials, equipment and spares parts to designated areas
  • Verify quality of work done
  • Clean up of PV Plant from obsolete materials
  • Use of power tools when required
  • Follow instructions from team leader to perform manual labour tasks (e.g., digging, trenching, and stacking up goods)
  • Health & Safety: Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating and positively contributing to toolbox talks
  • Appropriate use of safety equipment and tools, including PPE
  • Promptly reports any unsafe working conditions to the team leader
  • Reporting all accidents and hazards
  • Avoid unsafe work practises at work
  • Meeting the strategies and goals of the QHSSE manual
  • Ensure members understand and follow required process and Plant Safety Regulations

Qualifications and competencies 

  • A Grade 10/N1 Certificate Equivalent to ‘JC Certificate’
  • Proven experience as Solar Plant Construction labourer in Construction /Operational environment
  • Ideal: Grade 12 Certificate with Mathematics (not Literacy), Physical Science ‘BGCSE Certificate’
  •  Trained in Basic Electrical Safety (Site electrical assistant are the ones who should be trained, this should be added advantage for GST post)
  • 2 years’ experience as Solar Plant Construction labourer in renewable energy operations and maintenance environment
  • Proven experience as a Production Team Leader in Construction/Operations environment
  • Valid code B driving license
  • Good understanding of operations and maintenance processes in renewable energy plant environments
  • Basic electrical safety knowledge
  • Ideally experience working in a solar operations and maintenance environment
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Good technical knowledge and basic computer skills
  • Supervisory experience is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of QHSSE
