Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for Technical Development Manager Solar and Wind in Cairo, Egypt to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future.

The Technical Development Manager (TDM) has overall responsibility to support the projects during the opportunity and development phase by managing the engineering, supply chain and project control resources and workstreams to deliver a consistent EPC Technical and Commercial offer to Business Development.

The TDM is the key liaison between Solutions and Business Development and reports directly to the Business Developer (Project Manager). He is supported in the Line Organisation by the engineering, supply chain and project control department.

The TDM shall assess the pre-feasibility of the project using his own technical knowledge, which is mainly civil works but also electrical related and manage front-end engineering studies by using internal or external resources. With his own strong knowledge of the construction local cost and the support of the supply chain team, the TDM shall deliver a cost competitive EPC budget considering the specific site conditions, risks and grid interconnection solution(s) of the projects.

 

Main responsibilities 

  • Gather relevant information and input from the Business Development Department to support the preparation of deliverables required for various investment decisions.
  • Coordinate and plan the internal resources and workstreams across Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Control to ensure smooth and efficient documentation and project delivery.
  • Oversee all technical workstreams during the early phases of Solar and Wind projects, including pre-feasibility studies, front-end engineering design, site assessments, and the development of technical specifications in contracts.
  • Lead the development of technical concepts and solutions for projects, identifying optimal options from technical, commercial, and execution perspectives during early project stages. This includes civil, mechanical, electrical aspects of Solar and Wind plants, interconnection strategies, high-voltage design, yield assessments, and evaluations of emerging technologies such as floating PV, energy storage, and hybrid systems.
  • Ensure that the EPC budget remains competitive and aligned with the specific technical solutions, considering project uncertainties and risks.
  • Manage external and internal technical development processes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to successfully progress projects toward construction commencement.
  • Oversee EPC deliverables in Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and tenders organized by off-takers, ensuring compliance and quality.
  • Work as part of a regional core team comprising project development and project finance experts to support the achievement of the company’s ambitious growth targets.
  • Support organizational efficiency by co-developing and updating the Operating System to streamline processes, maintain consistent quality of deliverables, and ensure efficient project execution.
  • In collaboration with Supply Chain and Engineering teams, conduct market investigations and reviews concerning construction costs and key equipment pricing to inform project planning and budgeting.
  • Develop and maintain a network of partners, including consultants, suppliers, and contractors, to facilitate reliable sourcing and collaboration for project execution.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the local technical and economic landscape of the renewable energy sector in the region to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.

 

Qualifications and competencies 

  • Education: Technical university degree in Civil Engineering, with knowledge of Electrical systems.
  • Professional Experience:5 to 10 years of relevant experience, preferably within renewable energy companies (Solar and Wind), EPC contractors, or related sectors.
  • Languages: Fluent in both written and spoken English and Polish.
  • Project Experience: Proven experience in tender preparation and construction budget development.
  • Business Development: Experience in the early phases of project development and a solid understanding of power markets, particularly within the renewable energy sector, is desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies, power generation, interconnection, and transmission systems.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing and planning technical workstreams for large infrastructure projects within the renewables industry.
  • Technical Due Diligence: Hands-on experience conducting technical due diligence processes.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to optimize business outcomes from technical design and project execution perspectives.
  • Contract Knowledge: Working understanding of main technical contract structures in the renewables industry, including Solar and Wind projects.
  • Multidisciplinary Skills: Broad understanding of EPC projects, covering civil, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines.
  • Project Lifecycle Experience: Participation in construction phases, as well as Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phases, is advantageous.
