Main Purpose of the Position
We are seeking a Technical Development Engineer to join our Cape Town-based team and contribute to our global mission of Improving our future. In this role, you will support the Technical Development Manager and collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Control teams to support the Business Development teams to develop competitive and technically sound renewable energy projects.
This position is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of experience in engineering or renewable energy who is looking to deepen their expertise in solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid energy projects while working in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the techno-commercial requirements of renewable energy projects with a keen interest and knowledge of the various EPC aspects of the projects from engineering, supply chain, project planning and execution. The ideal candidate will enjoy operating in the early phases of projects where detailed information is not always available, but they have the opportunity to drive the technical development of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and organize project technical information, such as site studies, from the Business Development team
- Support the coordination of internal resources on projects (Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Control) to ensure timely and accurate deliverables are provided
- Contribute to early-stage technical assessments of solar and wind projects, including managing site studies and preliminary design work
- Develop technical concepts and solutions under guidance, considering civil, mechanical, electrical, and grid interconnection aspects
- Participate in the preparation of EPC budgets and proposals, balancing technical feasibility with commercial competitiveness
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to support project development through to construction readiness.
- Assist in preparing the technical response documentation for tenders, such as REIPPPP
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and tools to enhance efficiency and quality of deliverables
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or similar technical field)
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or engineering-related roles
- Experience in solar/wind/battery storage projects is preferred
- Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies and interest in power generation and grid systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and collaborative mindset
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to take on new challenges in a dynamic industry
Additional Expectations for This Role
- Contract Management: Understanding of EPC, O&M, and PPA agreements
- Project & Process Management: Manage and coordinate technical workstreams and development processes
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and commercial risks.
- Interface & Stakeholder Management
- Financial Control & Analysis: Solid understanding of financial metrics such as revenue, capex, EBITDA, and EBIT at both project and segment levels
Beneficial Experience
- Experience with Eskom Cost Estimate Letter (CEL) applications and Budget Quote Processes
- Offtaker analysis and tariff understanding

- Domestic or International travel may be required from time to time, depending on project needs and development phases
