Main purpose of position
We are currently seeking a Head of Business Development – India, based in Delhi, to lead and drive the company’s renewable energy growth strategy in India in line with our vision of improving our future. The role will be responsible for originating, developing, and securing renewable energy projects (solar, wind, hybrid, BESS and emerging technologies) from early-stage opportunity identification through financial close and handover to the Execution team. The position will play a key leadership role in market positioning, strategic partnerships, regulatory engagement, and competitive bidding across central and state-level opportunities.
Main responsibilities
- Lead market reviews, analyzing regulatory issues and policy supports (for utility-scale solar and develop strategies) for countries or regions
- Lead negotiations with prospective development partners and assume responsibility for external relationships
- Identify and evaluate new opportunities and projects that can meet Scatec’s investment hurdle rates
- Lead and coordinate project development efforts including securing land, obtaining required local permits and approvals, securing interconnection rights from utilities, negotiating PPAs with utilities, establishing EPC and O&M agreements, identifying, and securing equity and project debt
- Lead bidding processes to submit bid packages in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from utilities and private off-takers
- Identify mature projects or portfolios in development for acquisition and manage the project acquisition process
- Manage development teams including internal resources, consultants and development subcontractors
- Develop equity and project finance solutions with the project finance team and participate in securing financing for the projects and bring the project to financial close
- Manage and develop own team and perform the role as leader based on our values and leadership traits
Qualifications and competencies
- Master’s degree in engineering, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Legal, or a related field.
- 15–20 years of experience in renewable energy project development in India, with demonstrated exposure to utility-scale projects.
- Proven experience in PPA negotiations, competitive bidding (SECI/state tenders), grid connectivity processes, and project financing.
- Strong understanding of Indian regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in financial modelling and investment evaluation.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and leadership capabilities.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); Hindi and other regional languages are an advantage.
- Strategic mindset with strong commercial acumen and execution orientation.
