Main purpose of position
Currently we are looking for a Grid Connection Manager in Bucharest, Romania, to join our global team. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of grid connection for renewable energy projects, including solar PV, onshore wind, and BESS, specifically in Romania but also in selected other markets if applicable. The position will play a crucial role within the Project / Business Development team by developing grid connection strategies, identifying optimization opportunities for existing grid connections, understanding the cost and complexity of different alternatives, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective connection of projects to the grid, while also managing relationships with grid operators, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders.
Main responsibilities
- Lead on assessment of grid connection options for renewable energy projects, both during early-stage development and due diligence of projects for potential acquisition. Provide input and support for project planning, site selection, and permitting processes to optimize grid integration outcomes.
- Manage the review and/or preparation and submission of grid connection applications, permits, studies, and other regulatory requirements in compliance with local regulations and grid codes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for utility companies, grid operators, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders involved in grid interconnection processes. Facilitate technical discussions and negotiations to address grid connection requirements, timelines, and cost-sharing agreements. Negotiate grid connection conditions, terms and agreements with grid operators, transmission system operators (TSOs), distribution system operators (DSOs), Market regulator (ANRE) and other relevant authorities.
- Stay informed about relevant regulations, policies, and market rules governing grid interconnection and renewable energy and energy storage integration. Track regulatory changes, grid infrastructure developments, and emerging technologies in the renewable energy sector to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation to improve project competitiveness.
- Monitor project progress and timelines related to grid connection activities, identify potential bottlenecks or delays, and implement mitigation measures to keep projects on schedule. Provide updates and reports to senior management on grid connection status, milestones, risks, and opportunities.
- Review grid solutions studies, grid impact studies and curtailment studies and provide techno-commercial opinion about connection feasibility, curtailment levels and grid losses
- Support the EPC/O&M team and the HV engineer during design, energization, commissioning and grid compliance tests by being the liaison between the project and the grid operator, ensuring fulfilment of technical and regulatory requirements and deadlines
Qualifications and competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or another relevant field. Master’s degree an advantage.
- Experience in project development, grid connection management, project management, and/or electrical engineering, with a focus on renewable energy projects.
- Demonstrated deep understanding of grid connection processes, regulations, standards, and grid codes in Romania (requirement) and other markets (advantage)
- Fluent in English and Romanian, both written and spoken.
