Ready to make an impact?
Why this role matters
Your role will be to own the company's access to wholesale power markets for renewable energy and storage assets: the agreements, registrations, licenses and interfaces that allow assets to be scheduled, traded and balanced, whether execution is performed by external providers or in-house. Select, negotiate and manage market access, balancing responsible party (BRP) and balancing service provider (BSP), optimizer, execution and forecasting providers within mandates approved by the line manager. Lead the market access workstream of the planned transition of day-ahead and intraday market activities for non-storage assets to in-house market operations, while battery energy storage system (BESS) optimization remains with external optimizers. Contribute route-to-market cost and operational input to power purchase agreement (PPA) pricing and market intelligence. The role is based in Romania and covers the Romanian market, with support for market access set-up in one or two additional European markets as the portfolio expands.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you will:
- Prepare route-to-market options and provider recommendations for each market and asset, covering market access, balance responsibility, optimization and execution set-up, for decision by the line manager and the SVP Merchant Markets & Portfolio.
- Assess market design, balancing mechanisms and regulatory changes affecting market access, and to define market access requirements ahead of new market entry, financial close and asset commissioning.
- Obtain and maintain the company's market participation, including power exchange membership, balancing and scheduling registrations, REMIT registration and reporting set-up, prequalification for ancillary services, and related collateral and credit arrangements.
- Lead the identification, evaluation and selection of market access, BRP/BSP, optimiser, algorithmic execution and forecasting providers, including benchmarking of route-to-market solutions and costs across markets.
- Lead the commercial negotiation of market access and related agreements in coordination with Legal and Fi-nance, within mandates set by the line manager, and to own onboarding and operational set-up with counter-parties.
- Structure provider agreements so they support the planned transition to in-house market operations, including unbundled services, tenors and exit or step-down rights aligned with the asset-by-asset transition plan, and full access to data and interfaces.
- Manage ongoing relationships with providers, act as senior escalation point, and monitor performance against contractual key performance indicators (KPIs) and service levels through periodic reviews and renegotiations.
- Ensure effective oversight of nomination, scheduling, settlement and imbalance processes, whether performed by external providers or in-house, including review of settlement statements and invoices together with Back Office, follow-up of corrective actions, and continuous improvement of interfaces, controls and data exchange.
- Own the market access workstream of the build-up of in-house market operations, including exchange, trans-mission system operator (TSO) and provider interfaces into the trading and data platform together with Digital/IT, participation in shadow operations, and asset-by-asset go-live readiness for approval.
- Act as backup for daily market operations once in-house trading is live, within strategies and limits set by the Portfolio & Trading Manager.
- Provide route-to-market cost and operational inputs (market access, balancing and optimizer costs, operational constraints) to Price & Risk Structuring for PPA pricing, tender submissions and internal approvals, including assessment of the market access and operational implications of proposed structures.
- Contribute to the Market Intelligence function with insight on the market access provider landscape, day-ahead, intraday, balancing and ancillary market developments, and regulatory and market design changes affecting market access.
- Own reporting on route-to-market costs, provider performance and market access readiness, to contribute da-ta to realized revenue and capture price reporting owned by the Portfolio & Trading Manager, and to drive automation of reporting tools and databases.
Your work will support real decisions, real assets, and real operational outcomes.
What you’ll gain
- Professional growth through ownership, exposure, and meaningful contribution from day one
- Hands-on experience in a role where the challenge is energising, fast-moving, meaningful, and built on learning through doing.
- Exposure to complex stakeholder environments, including communities, contractors, organized labor, local authorities, and industry bodies.
- The opportunity to develop specialized expertise in industrial relations, community engagement, and social risk management within large-scale renewable energy projects.
What you’ll bring
- Education: Master's degree in engineering, economics, finance or a related field, or Bachelor’s degree with deeper direct experience.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years in market access, route-to-market, energy trading operations or commercial roles at a utility, independent power producer (IPP), aggregator or trader, including hands-on market operations (nominations, scheduling, settlement or imbalance management)
- Knowledge: strong understanding of wholesale power market design, balancing mechanisms and BRP responsibilities; knowledge of power exchange and TSO processes, REMIT and ancillary services markets
- Track record: negotiating and managing market access, aggregation or trading agreements
- Systems and data: familiarity with trading and ETRM systems and data interfaces; SQL or Python an advantage
- Language: fluent both written and spoken in English
